Some connections run deeper than memory. At Community First Solutions, our TouchPoint Sensory™ approach is centered on the understanding that meaningful moments don’t always need words. Through touch, sound, sight, taste and smell, we nurture a sense of warmth and togetherness for our memory care residents. The Crdl® is one of the most remarkable tools we’ve found to help make that possible.
What Is the Crdl®?
The Crdl is a sensory instrument that translates touch into music and sound. Crafted from solid hardwood, warm to the touch and free of buttons, wires and screens, its design is intentionally simple.
The moment two people connect — one hand on the Crdl, one hand on each other — sound begins. That contact initiates the magic: the Crdl recognizes different types of touch, such as holding, tickling, stroking or tapping. A slow stroke might draw out the warmth of a cello. A gentle tapping prompts a sweet chirping of songbirds. The manner and intention behind each touch shape what unfolds, making every experience uniquely its own, such as this one recently shared by sisters in our memory care community at The Patterson in Beavercreek.
Why Sensory Connection Matters in Memory Care
For individuals living with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia, sensory experiences often remain a pathway of connection when other forms of communication have grown more difficult. Sound and music have a quiet power, surfacing memories, stirring emotions and reaching the heart in ways conversation sometimes cannot.
By intentionally engaging the senses, we help create moments of presence and joy for residents, their families and care partners. Every tool we bring into our memory care communities is chosen with care and purpose. The Crdl is no exception.
